Did you have a chance to attend the webinar, “ATRI’s Top Industry Issues Right Now – and What To Do About Them”? We received more questions than we had time to answer in the allotted time frame, so Rebecca Brewster, President of ATRI, answered them below in this Q&A-style blog post. If you weren’t able to join the live webinar, don’t worry – you can watch it on-demand anytime!
Question: Can you get copies of the studies ATRI has done? Are they free?
Answer: Yes, all of ATRI’s research is available free of charge from our website at www.TruckingResearch.org. On the website, you’ll find a tab for “Research Hot Topics” where all of our published studies are grouped by major categories such as Hours-of-Service, Truck Parking, Economic Analysis, CSA, etc.
Question: Has ATRI identified best practices in effective coaching steps for at-risk driving behaviors?
Answer: ATRI’s 2005 study on Predicting Truck Crash Involvement collected best practices from top motor carriers on how they address each of the driver behaviors identified in the research as having the highest predictability of a future crash.
Question: Nuclear verdicts aside, are there any studies being done on the increasing amount of personal injury claims due to the increases by billboard attorney's pushing claims for PTSD? The settlements are getting out of control.
Answer: Look for ATRI’s study on nuclear verdicts which we expect to release in February 2020.
Question: Should simulation be used in training to reduce these nuclear verdicts?
Answer: It’s a great topic for a future research study to quantify the impact of proactive steps on the part of motor carriers to reduce verdicts.
Question: Do you have any practical tips to improve the truck parking situation and address drivers’ biggest concern?
Answer: At the end of the day, what is needed is more truck parking spaces along critical freight corridors. But research can and is providing another tool to address the parking issue through real-time parking availability systems and through studies in which ATRI is involved that are looking at parking supply and demand by time of day and other metrics.
